gather ye rosebuds while ye may!

Gather ye rosebuds while ye may, Old Time is still a-flying. And this same flower that smiles to-day, To-morrow will be dying.
--Robert Herrick's "To the Virgins, To make much of Time"

These lines are from one of my favorite poems...you might remember when Professor Keating in Dead Poets Society read this with the instruction...carpe Diem! Looking outside in my gardens, this piece is so timely...as the winds get chillier, the blooms are fading. It is time to gather up great bunches of flowers for inside the house before they are gone!

Displaying flowers in your home not only brings in a bit of the natural world, but it is a way to change the environment...flowers give us great pleasure and inspiration. Simple arrangements in canning jars are really chic. Often you can raid the pantry for some vintage looking jars (mom might still have some), or you can pick up a box of canning jars at your local supermarket for a few dollars. I was at a wedding this summer, and they made wonderful centerpieces with "Ball Jars" and gorgeous blooms. It evoked an elegant, yet fresh countryside look.

Aside from ornamentation, summer blooms provide great inspiration for paint colors for your home...if one color really catches your eye, try matching it or a tone of it with a paint chip (often paint retailers can assist with a matching system). The colors created by nature often resonate perfectly in your home...so what are you waiting for? Seize today...try bringing some blooming color in your space!
