at the center are relationships

Today we are faced with the preeminent fact that, if civilization is to survive, we must cultivate the science of human relationships... the ability of all peoples, of all kinds, to live together, in the same world, at peace.
-Franklin Delano Roosevelt

"Social media is about trust. Doing something nice gets you remembered, not just recalled.”
-Peter Shankman

Tonight I went to a NEW4Women networking session with guest speaker...creator of HAROPeter Shankman.  He coins himself an entrepreneur and adventurer...someone who speaks faster than most people I know.  Peter is fun, witty, and had some interesting ideas on how social media is changing the way we live and do business.  Social media is all about relationships and providing services for those in our is more than "OMG I just ate way too many french fries!"  Social media can be used to connect our gifts and talents to one another.  Whether it be for business or long lost high school buddies, social media is going to shape our lives moving forward...and the homes we live in.

We have access to more data than ever before and can "reach out and touch someone" in a matter of seconds 24/7...but how deep are our relationships?  Do we really take time to nurture those relationships?  Are we making time in our day to say more than what's on our we listen?  Our relationships have the power to transform our lives and our businesses.

Peter suggested that our homes of the future are going to be wired with mega capacities to be interconnected with those in our sphere...a new device called a Poken is already replacing our business cards, and GPS will be able to link you to everywhere you go as well as people who you might know along the way.   Relationships and free sharing of ideas lead the world today.  It is exciting to think about...while some may be nervous about this, I'm geeked and have already loaded my Poken!

Good food for thought! What a cool gizmo Poken is, but I'm not giving up my business cards.
